When I was young I fell in love
But then she left for other men
It broke my heart that we should part
And so I fell in love again


As time went by then wife by wife
My heart from strength to weakness leapt
And back again, throughout my life
As I my sad/glad mission kept


So now I'm old and turning grey
And greet life with a heartfelt sigh
And ask forgiveness, if I may
For the twinkle that's still in my eye
