Chapter 63
So it's goodbye again: Having left my hotel in a bit of a hurry, May and I found a room which would accomodate us temporarily while I looked for somewhere a little more permanent. I should explain that May was staying with me while she sorted her life out in BangTao. The deal was that she could stay for free (it cost me nothing) until she got a job and could support herself. What was in it for me, you might well ask. Well not a lot actually. She had made it very clear that her interest in me was hardly physical and indeed purely, if that is the right word, economic. Frankly I didn't really care anymore and in fact realised that I wasn't being very sensible. But anyway I started looking for somewhere more sensible, and economic, to live. Khun B as usual turned up trumps. She found me a two bedroomed house only five minutes from the beach and slightly cheaper than my original hotel. (11000 baht a month in fact). May was away the day I found this so I sent her a message to please come back in the morning so we could move out of our existing accomodation. Next morning May arrived and for reasons which I didn't quite understand started complaining about where the new house was, why hadn't I given her more information and a host of other things. I just said, " look I'm on my way to the new accomodation - If you want to join me then follow". She didn't. Later in the day I received the following SMS: "thank you for everythings u done for me! I think I better takecare of myself without your help now! thank you very much" To be honest I was a bit relieved as I could see that our relationship was not perfect. However that evening I went to my usual bar where I expected to see May serving and was haranged by May and her friend who were both there. Apparently I had been most unreasonable - and I talked too much. Well I have to concede that I talk too much but the subject material was that I talk too much about how May shares my accomodation but that we don't have sex together. I think I sort of understand their point but my defence was that in making this clear I was improving May's reputation by showing she wasn't sleeping with a dirty old man. (an 'old snake head' incidentally in Thai). But anyway I asked if she was ok because I felt a little worried for her. She assured me that she was fine. It wasn't until I got home that I put two and two together. Two nights before she left she was in a local bar with an old farang friend of hers. A man I know well who she used to work with. His major attribute seems to be that he spends most of his time drunk. I think I can guess where she resides. It would be unlike May to leave without a better offer. A choice between an old man and a drunk ? Oh May I weep for you. ...........................................
